In this highly entertaining, beautifully photographed rekindling of the classic French novel by Alexandre Dumas, director Kevin Reynolds choreographs a fantastic adventure replete with breathtaking scenery, fiery swashbuckling battles, lavish costumes, and, above all else, sweet revenge. In 19th-century Marseille, Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is the optimistic but uneducated son of a sea captain. He cherishes his friendship with the son of a count, Mondego (Guy Pearce), and is deeply in love with his fiancee, Mercedes (Dagmara Dominczyk). Young Dantes is so innocent and naive that it is positively shocking when Mondego turns on him, accusing him of treason, and having him sentenced to life in the dreary dungeon of Chateau D'If. Years of isolation and torture nearly defeat the revenge-thirsty Dantes, but with the help of invaluable lessons from the Abbe Faria (Richard Harris), his luck slowly changes. An incredible prison break starts Dantes on his way to a new life, and from there Reynolds' COUNT truly takes off. Battles with pirates lead to hunts for sunken ocean treasure, and soon Dantes is living in Marseille as the transformed, newly rich, self-proclaimed Count of Monte Cristo. Installed in a ritzy chateau, he slowly unfurls his excrutiatingly careful plans to exact his revenge on Mondego and all those who ever wronged him.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic WidescreenAudio: THX Certified Audio Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Dolby Digital 5.1 - FrenchAdditional Release Material: Deleted Scenes Audio Commentary - 1. Paycheck (DVD) Paycheck (DVD) » Paycheck (DVD)

Adapted from a mind-bending sci-fi thriller by Philip K. Dick, the slick and riveting PAYCHECK is directed by John Woo (THE KILLER, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE II)--the king of artful gunfighting flicks--who shows off his agility here with flat-out, white-knuckle cinematic entertainment. Michael Jennings (Ben Affleck) is a high-paid engineer who works on hush-hush computer inventions and technology for shady companies. Later, his memory is wiped clean, so he has no recollection of his work. His so-called friend Rethrick (Aaron Eckhardt, the master of smarmy mean-spiritedness, as in IN THE COMPANY OF MEN) offers him enough money to retire by working on a project at Rethrick's company, Allcom. When Jennings emerges three years later, sans memory, he tries to collect his paycheck. At the bank, he's handed a manila envelope filled with cryptic items he doesn't recognize, and told he voluntarily forfeited his entire paycheck. He also has a stunning girlfriend named Dr. Rachel Porter (Uma Thurman) who is likewise ensnared in the conspiracy. Jennings must somehow piece together the clues he left for himself, and find out why everyone is out to kill him.As usual, Dick's story is the basis for a killer script that travels from point A to Z with gripping immediacy. The clues left for Jennings are amusing writerly devices, intricately pieced together. Woo clearly enjoyed choreographing the wild gunfighting and chase sequences (slo-mo bullets aplenty), sending Affleck and Thurman on the run with a BMW motorcycle.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (DVD) The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (DVD) » The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (DVD)

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three' superbly achieves what few other moviesdo: a successful blend of thrills, style, comedy, drama, suspense and action. It is the precursor for many thrillers of the 1990s, from indie hits like Quentin Tarantino's RESERVOIR DOGS, and more popular, Hollywood vehicles like SPEED.The story focuses on four criminals who hijack a subway car and demand one million dollars from the mayor of New York, threatening to kill one hostage per minute if their demands aren't met. The hijackers are Mr. Blue (Robert Shaw), the crafty and efficient leader; Mr. Green (Martin Balsam), the train driver; Mr. Gray (Hector Elizondo), the hothead; and Mr. Brown (Earl Hindman), a nervous, stuttering man.
New York City transit lieutenant Zachary Garber (Walter Matthau) goes above and beyond his call of duty to play negotiator with the hijackers. The camera grabs the viewer by taking him down into dark gritty hallows of the subway tunnels and into the midst of the harrowing situation on the hijacked car. Based on the book by JohnGodey, TAKING OF PELHAM is a true classic that depicts the dark, crime-ridden climate of 1970s New York city.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseWidescreen - 1.85Audio: Mono - English, Spanish, French Subtitles - Spanish, FrenchAdditional Release Material: Theatrical TrailerAdditional Product: Collectible Booklet

Ms. 45 (DVD) Ms. 45 (DVD) » Ms. 45 (DVD)

This early 1980s cult classic still stands as a potent and uniquely feminist entry in the urban revenge subgenre. Mute fashion seamstress Thana (Zoe Tamerlis) is raped on her way home from the grocery store and then raped by a second attacker who has broken into her apartment, all within the first 15 minutes of the film. She kills the second rapist with an iron and, after recovering from the shock, starts dismembering his body. Thana then wanders the New York streets at night in a sexy black dress with her attacker's gun strapped to her garter belt, blowing away any man who tries to pick her up. What begins as a revenge film gradually becomes a disturbing portrait of urban alienation and sexual fear. New York director Abel Ferrara (THE FUNERAL, BAD LIEUTENANT) directed this, his second film, from a religious-symbol-soaked script by longtime friend Nicholas St. John. Joe Delia composed the eerie EXORCIST-style score. Highly regarded by both audiences and critics, MS. 45 is that rare breed of exploitation film--intensely disturbing yet sexy, clever, intelligent, and even funny. Tamerlis delivers an astonishing performance as Thana, and Ferrara brilliantly captures her character's distorted perspective.DVD Features:Region 0 EncodingSnap Case
