ENTRAPMENT: Sparks fly as Virginia Baker (Catherine Zeta-Jones), an insurance agent, charms her way into doing business with Robert MacDougal (Sean Connery), an aging thief. In preparation for their latest heist, Connery has her suffer through a rigorous training camp. Promises begin to blur and dwindle as romance introduces itself into the picture, building up to a payoff that`s sure to disappoint one of the involved parties.ROMANCING THE STONE: Though she can spin wild tales of passionate romance, novelist Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) has no life of her own. Then one day adventure comes her way in the form of a mysterious package. It turns out that the parcel is the ransom she`ll need to free her abducted sister, so Joan flies to South America to hand it over. Only she gets on the wrong bus and winds up hopelessly stranded in the jungle -- until she encounters Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), a man who could have stepped straight out of one of her novels.Though Jack`s good looks and intrepid moves dazzle her, Joan quickly sees Jack for the cheap opportunist that he is. But he`s all she`s got, so together they journey out of the jungle, battling mudslides, druglords, crazed treasure-hunters -- and each other. Along the way, Joan discovers she`s tougher than she ever thought; tough enough to rescue her sister, and tough enough to fall in love with the troublesome Jack. TRUE LIES: Secret agent Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a busy man; when he`s not saving the world from terrorists, he`s under cover as a boring computer salesman, juggling the everyday needs of his wife, Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), and his daughter. While Harry and his partner, Gib (Tom Arnold), work to stop a gang of international terrorists from getting their hands on missing nuclear weapons, Helen, feeling neglected, begins a covert affair with a sleazy used car salesman pretending to be a spy. When Harry finds out, he decides to give Helen a lesson in spy games, which

Flight of the Phoenix/Cast Away (DVD) Flight of the Phoenix/Cast Away (DVD) » Flight of the Phoenix/Cast Away (DVD)

FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX: Originally a 1965 Jimmy Stewart vehicle, this FLIGHT gets a rough and ready updating for the new century, with the stalwart Dennis Quaid now inhabiting the title role. He`s a pilot on a routine trip out to investigate some remote oil rigs in the Gobi Desert, but things go wrong and he makes a crash landing in the middle of nowhere. For him, and the men along for the ride, a slow, tortured, thirsty death seems certain, unless the plucky mechanic in the crew (Giovanni Ribisi) can design a whole new plane from the wreckage. As with the original, this is a manly adventure of rugged survival and mechanical ingenuity, only this time there`s a woman on board, Kelly (Miranda Otto) who generates some romantic sparks. Some of the other survivors are played by: Tyrese Gibson, Sticky Fingaz, Bob Brown and Kirk Jones. The men and one woman have to tangle with murderous desert raiders and numerous sandstorms in addition to the frequent squabbling amongst themselves. Director John Moore gets a lot of mileage out of the desert backdrop and Ribisi is solid as the mechanic with a troubled past. It was produced by William Aldrich, whose dad Robert directed the Stewart original. Edward Burns (THE BROTHERS McMULLEN) co-wrote the new screenplay.CAST AWAY: Tom Hanks is Chuck Noland, a man in a hurry. His job for Federal Express has him traveling the world on a moment`s notice, exhorting the company`s employees to speed things up-- never turn your back on the clock.
When he`s suddenly called away for business on Christmas night, his tolerant longtime girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) drives him to the airport. They have their Christmas in the car--and Chuck plunks an engagement ring into her lap right before he gets on the plane, telling her,
I`ll be right back.
But an unexpected storm cuts the plane`s crew off from radio contact and blows them off course. Chuck is the sole survivor of the resulting crash, and washes up on a completely deserted island. Strand

Detroit 9000 (DVD) Detroit 9000 (DVD) » Detroit 9000 (DVD)

This great, mostly forgotten 70's urban actioner was deservedly revived by Quentin Tarantino's distribution company, Rolling Thunder in 1998. The story is as follows: two cops, one black and the other white, are assigned the most difficult and potentially dangerous case of their careers when ambitious robbers hit a fund-raising affair for Michigan's first Black gubernatorial candidate. This results in much double crossing, a lot of gunplay, non-candy coated handling of racial tension, and a fantastically long and gritty chase scene around the fringes of Detroit in large, early 70's model automobiles. A great script and tight performances make this far better than most 70's exploitation films. Recommended!DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseInteractive Features: Scene Access Interactive Menus
