As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.Many of the film s action sequences revolve around Summer Glau s martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a resulted performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film`s actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity`s future.

In a faraway, floating city in the sky, a young girl named Sephie finds herself saddled with the remarkable obligation of political leadership. Her father, who was once minister of the city of Meridian, dies unexpectedly, and leaves the peace-loving kingdom entirely in his orphan child`s hands. Her shameless capitalist uncle, the minister of nearby city Cadador, offers to take her under his wing and introduce her to the world of politics, but Sephie soon discovers that Ilan is not the kindly relative she once believed him to be. Now, Sephie must not only rule the city, but fend off evildoers from Cadador whose mission is to stop her at all costs. Fortunately, she has been inexplicably endowed with mystical powers of healing and other superheroic abilities. In these episodes, Sephie`s uncle and nemesis Ilan tries to destroy her by casting her out into space. Falling from the sky is usually followed by certain death, but Sephie survives thanks to her newfound magical gifts. Faced with great dangers, Sephie tries to return to her beloved city of Meridian to save it from the evil influence of Ilan and his Cadadonian henchmen. The artfully drawn, finely shadowed illustrations of a stunning fantasy world are rendered surprisingly lifelike throughout the production.
